Lately I've been increasingly involved in water sports and love to be able to take my digital camera on the water. For one thing, I have too much disposable underwater cameras with film I have yet to develop. Digital is just so easy. However, it is not without some trepidation that I embark on this little research. I once bought an underwater camera that you could open and replace the film, and despite all efforts, I still finished with water (and potentially void the movie) in the case. Not only that, but I some knowledge of diving watches, and I saw new leaks spring hits on their first outings on the water.
Thus, shopping is a major concern carefully. I have essentially two options. I must be unique for a budget for my camera, or buying a new camera underwater. Both options have their drawbacks and more. Interestingly, the most important thing that I read about the underwater camera came not from Guide to buying a case, but somebody else consider a case that I looked up: Get Flood Insurance. Why it seems not be more clear, I do not know. The point being, that any number of things can cause a leak in the casing, like a grain of sand trapped, or a bad o-ring. No guarantee against this company because it would be too costly. Fortunately, with little assurance of research on the web against floods for your camera should not be too hard to find. Dan and DEPP (which are both standard diver insurance) offer this protection.
Regarding that the benefits of purchasing an underwater case against an underwater camera, the most obvious is that you can use out of the water too. Although cases are not exactly cheap, it is certainly cheaper than buying a totally new aircraft for submarines. And as I said, I was even able to find a case that was actually made for my pocket camera. In addition, real systems underwater camera can set a good return of several hundred dollars, depending on what you get. These two factors helped me decide that underwater camera was out of my budget (for now).
I then decided to watch what was important in the choice of characteristics of housing for my camera. Full control is certainly important. If all you can do is point and click underwater, which will not be much help because of the low light environment. Another consideration is whether I'll use a flash. The way light travels through the water, you can take a picture 3 feet, yet the light is filtered by 9 feet of water (in terms Simple, light does not go as far into the water), so that the regular flash on a camera will do little to enlighten. Getting closer to what you pull and not go too deep will certainly help things. I may have to seek a stroboscope, somewhere on the road if, for light better.
Other things to think about include, what will you do with the photos? Do you plan subsequently changed? If I decide make a flash, I'll have to watch what my unit flashes can connect to. What type of environments will I use the camera? If water Cold can be used with gloves? So what I want to shoot? What I want to take macro pictures of fish or simply photos of your friends? These are many things to consider before making the leap. But, bearing in mind these questions, I'm pretty sure I can find a housing the camera to be something I will use and will not break the bank.
