Going out of town on a business trip for the first time may be daunting. But not to worry, by following some great tips, this first time experience may be enjoyable as well:
- Listen to your senior officer or boss coming along with you for the trip. More often than not, the first business trip you go to will not be done solo. You will be either mentored or act as an assistant to your superior officer or boss. Be sure to listen to your boss and follow to the letter as he or she has been doing this for a number of times and will help you adjust to such settings. This includes bring extra pens, carrying extra copies, having back up lap tops and USB drives for the presentation. You can even practice with your boss about the presentation briefing to make sure that all the slides are done properly and without any mistakes. Some bosses are perfectionists and would want to practice doing the presentation while others are more off the cuff.
- Bring your business suits and more. For the first time trip, bring at least two business suits as there may be business dinners involved. Apart from this, bring your grooming accessories. You want to be clean shaven and well groomed all the time. Perhaps bringing an outfit for casual wear is possible but always check with your boss. Depending on the length of the trip, with most business trips starting off for at least two days, you may have to have enough clothes for three days. Always have an extra day of clothes with you on the trip.
