This article is the first in a series of three articles highlighting the basic principles of the test dynamometer. In this first article, "What as a dynamometer, "we will see the main components of the engine dynamometer water brake (dynamometer) and how they work.
An engine test bench is a service tool that allows the operator to safely place a load on a motor controlled. An engine test bench is the only responsible capacity procedure to check the engine. With the use of a chassis, an engine can be used correctly throughout its power range without being put into service. deficiencies of the Assembly can be detected before the engine is installed in a chassis and a real evaluation operating conditions of an engine can be made. The bench is the final quality test before an engine is installed.
Construction
An engine dynamometer has two main components: the absorption unit and torque indicating system. A brake tester water uses a unit of absorption (absorber) to absorb the power through dynamic exchange, using water as working fluid. Absorber water brake consists of one or more rotors mounted on the shaft and at least two stators (or end of bells). The rotors turn freely absorber inside the case in the absence of water. When water is introduced into the absorber dynamometer, the rotor turns faster water and "throw" in the stators. When the stators were not selected, they are also beginning to turn, similar to a converter torque. But stators to the test are selected using a torque arm which is connected to a load cell.
The load cell measured the force with which the stators are trying to turn. By knowing the distance between the axis of the damper arm torque, the torque can be measured by:
Torque = force x distance
If we measure the speed, power can then be found by the relationship:
HP = (torque X rpm) / 5252
The amount of force absorbed is proportional to the volume of water inside the housing absorber. The water is finally absorb all the power as heat, so hot water should be exhausted and fed by the cold water to prevent boiling. By restricting the exhaust gas and control the flow of water through the absorber dyno, the volume of water inside, and therefore the load can be precisely controlled. A no-load engine operation can only produce speed. Maintaining a given RPM, it must engine power very soon. The bench is a means by which a controlled load can be added and controlled.
With a type of brake dynamometer Water, power of power is converted into heat water bench. The rotors and stators accomplish this transfer of energy. The two rotors and stators Integrated pockets. As water is fed into the bench by passages in the stator, it is released into the bench near the center of the rotor. This water entering the bench will go into the pockets of the rotor. The water is accelerated by the rotation of the rotor which is attached to the shaft of the motor. As it is accelerated, it tends to fly due to centrifugal force. As he does, he ends up in the pockets of similar plates in the stator. Water stator in the pocket tends to run out and met again by the Assembly spinning rotor. Water is again accelerated. This constant acceleration and deceleration of water flowing from the rotor to the stator and rotor, etc. requires a power supply and converts this energy heat to water friction. The heat transfer engine power to heat of friction of the water is based on the laws of pure physics. Quantity water in the bank at a given time determines the amount of power it can absorb. The more water that is in the bench, the bench more can absorb.
What is an engine dynamometer system?
The chassis engine itself is only a component a system of complete test of the engine. A system test bench consists of a typical engine dyno and the following components: Drive Shaft, Guard drive shaft, adapter plates of the wheel, a carriage motor, the cooling column and a set of data acquisition and control.
Driveshaft and Guard
Once the engine is in position, the steering is connected to a shaft cardan joint monitored with just a few bolts. The time spent on the motor power is reduced due to practical design of the cart motor.
Shopping engine and adapter plates
A basket of motor is used to support and transport engines. Adapter plates are provided to quickly find the back of the engine to cart engine in proper alignment with the bench while an adjustable bear the weight of the engine in front. Once the engine is mounted, the car is simply rolled up and pinned up.
Cooling tower
The engine cooling column is used to maintain the temperature of liquid water on the jacket cooled engine. The motor of the cooling tower provides regulated pressure, thermostatic control the temperature of the water to guard against overheating the engine during testing.
Data Acquisition and Control Systems
A typical bench controller contains the pressure Dyno system and temperature sensors. The sensors are housed in an industrial enclosure and provided with quick coupling. The information is collected by sensors and in many cases and combined with a ECM torque, speed and power measurements of the bench and sent to the computer system Dyno.
Computer in data acquisition and control interfaces bench system with the controller and the bench seat and performs all the functions embedded control. It is also the place where new tests are performed and reports are generated, printed and stored.
