Time Dark

Many women have dark circles under their eyes on a regular basis. In fact, 9 out of 10 people have to deal with dark circles under their eyes at one time or another. The condition has been blamed on anything from lack of sleep to the wrong diet. It is actually caused by one of three primary reasons.
Vascular inflammation caused by enlarged blood vessels beneath the thin skin under your eyes. Staying up late and allergies can cause the inflammation.
The bone structure of your face and add shadows under your eyes, making them look even darker then they are. This mostly affects people with deep-set eyes.
The third reason is hyper-pigmentation, a condition that is passed on through genetics.
Let's take a look at what you can do to get rid of these dark circles under your eyes, or at least "camouflage" them.
Get plenty of rest. I know it sounds very cliché, but you really do need your beauty sleep. Do your best to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night.
Eat well and drink lots of water. Include plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and lean meat. The vitamins and minerals in healthy food will improve your complexion, give you more energy and overall make you feel better. It will show in your eyes as well. Combine this with drinking at least 8 glasses of water and your skin will stay more elastic which helps with the appearance of dark circles in addition to many other skin problems.
Black Tea bags make for a great eye remedy. The black tea will help tighten the skin around your eyes, and it gives the eyes themselves a nice glow. Just brew yourself a cup of black tea and then use the teabag on your eyes. Don't burn yourself, but put it on there as hot as you can comfortably stand it.
Grate some potato with a cheese grater and put the potato pieces under your eyes. Let them soak in for about 15 minutes, then rinse with plenty of warm water.
When everything else fails, hide your dark circles under some light concealer. Pick a shade just slightly lighter than your makeup. Put some on your index finger and gently tap it under your eyes. Use a sponge to smooth it out. Don't use your fingers or the concealer stick to rub it in. That will make the circles appear even worse.

In a Dark Time $42.24 Since the reversion of Okinawa from American occupation to Japanese sovereignty in 1972, these subtropical islands have become the site of a complex colonial and postcolonial relationship of resistance and dependence between Okinawa, Japan, and the United States.Linda Isako Angst provides a glimpse behind the historical and geopolitical dimensions of the Okinawan experience by drawing attention to the diverse perspectives of women from different generational and economic backgrounds. Angst recounts the memories and experiences of these women—including farming and fishing women who survived forced mass suicides during the final battle of World War II, and their daughters in the postwar era; the elite Himeyuri student nurses and their surviving classmates; postwar feminists and other women activists in the powerful anti-base movement; and scores of “ordinary” women who worked in and around U.S. military bases in the postwar decades—to chart the development of Okinawan political subjectivity through the critical roles of women in their social, political, and economic contributions to a gender-inflected politics of identity. By foregrounding these compelling personal narratives, this coherent ethnography reveals how Okinawan women can offer a critical view of the modern Japanese nation-state from its margins. |

The Dark $8.47 Metal Church's excellent debut had impressed critics and fans alike with its ferocious blend of classic metal and thrash. But by the time they released its follow-up, 1986's The Dark, the band seemed to be struggling with their direction and wrestling with internal problems. The fact that they were collectively one of the most unattractive bands ever (even by heavy metal standards) didn't help matters either, especially in image-conscious America, so it was no surprise when the band's appeal remained firmly confined to the metal underground. Which is too bad, since The Dark contained some of the group's best material, including the brutal intensity of "Start the Fire" and "Method to Your Madness," as well as what was probably their best-known song, the astoundingly heavy epic "Watch the Children Play." Extensive touring with Elektra labelmates Metallica had also motivated the band to develop their thrashier inclinations, resulting in vicious moshers like "Ton of Bricks" and "Over My Dead Body." ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi Performers: Craig Wells - Guitar; David Wayne - Vocals; Duke Erickson - Bass; Kirk Arrington - Percussion, Drums; Kurdt Vanderhoof - Guitar |

The Dark $12.78 EEA are a trio of jazz faculty members at the University of Nevada, Reno, consisting of saxophonist Peter Epstein, trumpeter Larry Engstrom, and pianist David Ake. The lack of additional rhythm instruments gives the players both plenty of freedom and responsibility, which they handle well. The trio's three group improvisations stand out with potent interplay, with the first sounding as if it could be used as a film soundtrack. Ake composed six selections, including the haunting ballad "The Dark," blending Epstein's soprano and Engstrom's trumpet in shining ensembles, as well as showcasing them individually, backing them with sparse chords. "Time Falls (Like Snow)" is also a somber, bittersweet affair, while the playful "Birthday Boy" bounds with seemingly endless energy. The trio also interprets two gems by Duke Ellington. The elegant "African Flower" (premiered on the famous Money Jungle album with Max Roach and Charles Mingus) features muted trumpet and alto sax, retaining the delicate air of the original while taking it into new territory, giving it a bit of a darker flavor. "Heaven" is one of the less frequently played Ellington works, but not for its lack of beauty; the trio's heartfelt arrangement shimmers. ~ Ken Dryden, Rovi Performers: David Ake - Piano; Larry Engstrom - Trumpet; Peter Epstein - Sax (Alto), Sax (Soprano) |

By the Time It Gets Dark $13.58 You'll find Mary Black albums in the "Irish" section of most record stores, but that's more because of her musical pedigree than because of anything she's recorded since 1990. The former vocalist for Irish folk group De Dannan, she has since gone on to great success in her native land as a solo artist specializing in gentle pop music with folk inflections. Lighter than June Tabor but heavier than Enya, Black has staked out a territory of her own somewhere between the slick excesses of Clannad and the nuevo-retro American singer/songwriter resurgence. Her voice is simply one of the loveliest in the world -- imagine Linda Thompson at her achingly bell-toned, crystalline best, and that's Mary Black at her average. Her best can leave you in tears. By the Time It Gets Dark is typical, which is to say that it's predominantly wonderful and also includes one or two glaring errors of musical judgment. With the help of guitarist and producer Declan Sinnott, she delivers a number of gorgeous ballads recorded with a bare minimum of accompaniment; this approach has always proved most effective for her, and when brought to bear on such sterling material as Richard Thompson's "Farewell, Farewell" or the traditional Scottish gem "Leaboy's Lassie," the effect is quietly devastating. "Once in a Very Blue Moon" and "Sparks Might Fly" are downright maudlin (she has an unfortunate weakness for Broadway-style schlock sometimes), and it's anyone's call as to the necessity of another version of "Moon River." But so much of this material is transcendentally lovely that the whole disc can confidently be recommended. ~ Rick Anderson, Rovi Performers: Garvan Gallagher - Double Bass, Bass; Noel Bridgeman - Claves, Conga; Una Ni Chuioius - Cello; Carl Geraghty - Sax (Soprano); Declan Sinnott - Spanish Guitar, Slide Guitar, Guitar, Guitar (Acoustic), Synthesizer; John Sheehair - Violin; John Sheehan - Violin; Mary Black - Vocals; Pat Crowley - Accordion, Piano, Synthesizer |

The Dark $14.38 Clark's easygoing, front-porch delivery benefits from the intimate setting provided throughout The Dark. With plenty of space around the instruments and no production clutter in the way, the essence of each song conveys clearly as well. Surprises are few, and perhaps the least-surprising aspect of this set is that it is as well-crafted as one has a right to expect from Clark. (Only one track, by Townes Van Zandt, is a cover.) Subjects range from the historical, in the gruesome yet stoic "Soldier's Joy, 1864," to reflections on more modern tragedies; in the spoken verses and weary-sung choruses of "Homeless," Clark captures the fatalism of living on the streets with vernacular eloquence. Clark turns the death of a beloved dog into a mordant lament on "Queenie's Song" and ruminates on simple, visceral pleasures on "Mud." In truth, no one track stands out; each reflects the care of a writer (or, on these songs, co-writer) and singer -- more than that, an actor for whom music is his stage, and whose high standards seem likely to persist for a long, long time. ~ Robert L. Doerschuk, Rovi Performers: Verlon Thompson - National Steel Guitar, Djembe, Mandolin, Harmonica, Percussion, Vocals, Guitar; Darrell Scott - Marimbula, Mandocello, Dobro, Banjo, Accordion, Mandolin, Bass, Guitar, Vocals, Guitar (Baritone); David Rawlings - Vocal Harmony, Harmony Vocals; Gillian Welch - Vocal Harmony, Harmony Vocals; Shawn Camp - Fiddle; Tim O'Brien - Fiddle; Chris Latham - Violin; Guy Clark - Vocals, Gui |
