In a country that values the safety and security, I was surprised to discover a lack of "reverse" or "walking back "systems available as standard equipment on American cars. I lived and worked for many years in the United Kingdom as as delivery driver and an engineer on the ground. Each truck or van and have been known to drive (regardless of size or weight) was equipped with a parking sensor.
This parking sensor system usually consisted of what appeared to four six rounds of small buttons that were built under the rear bumper. According to the manufacturer of these parking sensors could be anything Infrared emitters from the sonar or radar transmitters that sent the same signal measured and the distance between the rear bumper of an object behind the vehicle. The parking sensors have been wired to the vehicle and usually attached to a speaker in the dashboard. When the vehicle was placed in reverse parking sensor would detect anything behind the vehicle and emits a beep or other sounds. Plus the rear bumper to be the stronger or more urgent tone. I'm sure you can imagine how this is useful for anyone who has reversed in a situation where the line of site is difficult or interrupted. Not to mention useful for anyone learning to drive or parking in parallel.
I did some research trying to discover why this simple system was not available on most cars, particularly in view of American propensity for mini-vans. I do not think I ever had a good response on why the audio sensor reverse seemed to be so rare. But I found something even better, the camera system back.
In recent years an increasing number of cars sold in the States are available with an optional backup camera system. Unfortunately this option is quite expensive, which led me to new research.
The good news is that a good quality backup camera system can easily be found. But you know what you are looking for, for example, the search for RV backup camera. These devices are really a must have for RV Owners and are standard equipment on most models the most expensive sold in the last few years. The technology has been around for a while in this area so there lots of aftermarket models sold separately that can be used on cars, vans and trucks as well.
There seems to have two basic types of system backup camera. The first and most often the most expensive is what I call the cable system. This camera system backup consists of a small camera mounted at the rear of the vehicle that is bound by the son to an LCD mounted on the base scoreboard. The rearview camera is powered by reversing the vehicle light circuit if it comes only when the car is in reverse mode. However, while this type of system backup camera seems to be inexpensive to purchase, you should consider installing. Unless you have some experience with auto mechanics and auto interiors, they can be difficult to install yourself.
The second type of system Rear view camera that I ran across seems to be the most reasonable even if it appears to be a bit more expensive. I'm talking about the wireless camera backup. As you can guess the wire along the trunk to the dashboard is replaced by transceivers wireless camera to the screen. The I models considered to this day still use the table lamp to power down the device, but if you can change the taillight bulb in your car, then you should have no problems connecting the camera yourself.
