When planning your trip to Paris, do not forget to pack the right adapters for your devices small. Otherwise, you will attract trouble.
Higher voltage
Electric power in France - and Europe in general - comes from the socket 230-240 volts. Power in America is 110 volts. If your electric shaver is not designed to operate between 110 and 240 volts, it burns quickly when you plug into an outlet French.
Before you bring your electric razor or a CD with you, make sure that the voltage they support. If they are equipped with processors - small devices that convert a 110 volt in 9 - or 12-volt current, also called converters - check characteristics of voltage transformers. The tension band should be clearly indicated on the label. If the labels state "'110 volts, this is not enough. You will burn both the converter and the device when plugging in an outlet abroad.
Pack only appliances operating at between 110 and 240 volts or 9-12 volts (and only if) they use transformers rated at 230-240 volts accept European.
Transformers designed for laptops are generally designed for use with 100-240 Volt power. Check yours in advance. If that is rated at 110 volts, go to the store nearest Radio Shack with your laptop, and buy a transformer multi-voltage.
Check the battery charger for your digital camera and a cell phone too. Some battery chargers can operate 240 volts, others not. Read the labels on your charger and the transformer that can come with it.
Plug differences
The electrodes (terminals) on a U.S. plug are flat. The electrodes on a French plug are cylindrical. outlets in French only accept these cylindrical plugs.
This means that you will not be able to plug your flat American plug into a regular French.
You buy a cheap adapter. They come in different shapes and forms. The more sophisticated devices to connect your devices anywhere in the world.
You should be able to find the cheap at your local hardware store. Call before you drive, and not all stores carry these products. You find adapters also travel to the airport.
Adaptors are not transformers
Adaptors are simple devices that allow your plug-US model to be connected to a French or European-made model.
Converters and transformers modify the characteristics current that powers your device.
Do not confuse one for another. The converter is heavier because there is a metal coil in it. The adapter is usually light because it is all plastic with pieces of metal.
Sometimes, converters also double as adapters - in this case, the shape of the male terminal fit the shape of the capture of female terminals.
Hairdryer
Hairdryer in general suck in a lot of energy. If yours does not work between 110 and 240 volts, you need to buy a bulky transformer.
I recommend not to pack this device, but simply call the hotel to check if they provide hair dryers in the rooms.
