When Christmas time rolls around I find myself getting excited. This is the one time of the year I will actually receive tools as a gift. One of the most common gifts to give a man is a cordless drill. But buying the right drill can be a challenge even for the most savvy home repair enthusiasts.
So to help you in your quest let us talk about the difference between two of the most common types of drills. Even the choice between these two options will make a big difference to the person who the gift is intended for.
The regular cordless drills that you can find around at most supply stores will work for most home projects. They also require a drill bit which is inserted in to the end of the drill. The drill bit is rotated at high speeds and when it is pressed against an object it allows you to make holes for screws. Most of these drills are used to drill in to wood and other soft materials.
You might also see hammer drills in your journey. It operates in the same manner that a regular drill does but it also does something else. At the same time the hammer drill is drilling it also hammers the material at the same time. This is why these are best suited for tough materials like concrete and steel. They also need a heavy duty drill bit because the ones made for wood would break in an instant.
So this goes to show you that drills are not made equal. You will also find that hammer drills cost slightly more than their counterparts. When buying either drill just be sure to get a receipt so that it can be exchanged if you bought the wrong one.
There is also the problem of figuring out which brand is best. The best advice I can give you is to stick with well known brands like DeWalt and Milwaukee. Now you are prepared to make that special gift purchase.
