A solar water heater is a simple piece of equipment and setting it can be done by anyone with even a small amount of ability plumbing. Most problems come from the primary heater box and can be fixed in less than an hour. You need simple tools and decent dexterity, but the work itself is simple.
Since there is no electricity problems to do with the solar water heater itself, your problems stem from a leak in the storage tanks or in the primary heat box. If have a leak on a tank, it will be easy to spot. The primary heat box is another question though. The pipe is inside usually copper or PVC and is set up a model similar to the radiator of a car. The large number of bends in the pipe would leak just because when you bend a pipe it will weaken the integrity of equipment and these fragile areas deteriorate over time. Fortunately, the box usually comes with a clear plastic cover so it should be easy to see the leak.
Once you know, the problem is in the box, cut the main water supply and allow the system to drain completely. Remove the radiator of his mounts and disconnect the two water lines opposite corners and allow excess water to drain. Remove the lid and the two hands dry or sun dry pipes inside until they are completely dry.
Now take a piece of paper of dry sand and wet and clean around the area of the leak. Depending on the size of the leak you may be able to exit either with JB Weld or PVC seal to seal the leak, cover your work with tape to ensure a good patch. If you have a leak greater than you might have to reduce the area of the pipe and the surrounding replaced by new pipes. With PVC is a simple process to buy a female connector and using PVC cement to join the two ends. You also buy adapters for connecting copper and galvanized pipes. There will be times when you have to do to meet the welding pipes together especially in places that are too small to allow a coupling adapter.
Once you have repaired the leak simply reverse the process and you mounted solar water heater. Your corrections, if applied correctly, probably the last pipe nearby.
