You've been sitting around watching TV for a few days and a sinking feeling passes. The words they speak are not as easily collected as they used to be. You keep having to increase the TV volume to catch what was said, and you still miss the words sometimes. There are times when a colleague, a child, spouse or even your grandchildren you speak, but you did not know it until they stopped and looked fun. Uh oh. You have an idea what is happening, but you turn to your doctor for a correct diagnosis.
Unfortunately, your suspicions were correct and that you have suffered some type of hearing loss. You have been devastated, even shocked when the audiologist said that you had lost hearing, but you do not need to be. A hearing loss diagnosis is not the end of the world. There are more terrible things in life! Hearing loss can usually be corrected if the hearing is restored to near what it was before the loss occurred.
If an audiologist did not make the diagnosis, then I'm probably not otolaryngologist. They are a specialist who studies the ear, nose, throat, head and neck diseases. They can determine what your hearing loss is or can be reversed if it results from a condition or disease. Some diseases are genetic and the specialist can even be treated the members of your family in the past, knowing exactly what can be done your situation.
Whatever your diagnosis, do not let it discourage you. Hearing can be set using a prosthesis hearing. A hearing aid amplifies sounds in the ear and took almost restores your hearing. No aid will never hear you get 100% of the hearing, even if they claim, but they can come very close.
Since hearing aids and devices can get your hearing back almost to normal, there is not something bad, is it? Not really, but you may need to change your lifestyle a little.
Hearing AIDS and water disagree. If you have a pool, live near water or a sauna, you must remove your device before you go in. Since you have remove your device, your hearing loss will be present. Just explain to someone who is with you only if they have something important to say, do it before removing the hearing aid or wait until he is back in. They can also signal with movements if they needed to talk and you're too far away to hear.
Hearing aids can also be difficult if you like extreme sports. Jumping out of a airplane, roller coasters and bungee jumping may make the hearing aid down completely. You do not want that to happen hearing loss, but you can lose all together. Hearing aids can also be damaged if it touches the ground or other hard surface.
Miracle Ear hearing aids offer you with the ability to hear clearly again. Whether you're conversing with an old friend, at the movies or just watching television with family at home, Miracle Ear ensures you can hear everything clearly.

Hearing $96.95 Hearing: Anatomy, Physiology and Disorders of the Auditory System provides detailed information about the anatomy and physiology of the entire auditory system and it describes important aspects of disorders of the middle ear, the cochlea, and the nervous system in a comprehensive manner. Most other textbooks on Hearing are focused on either the periphery or the central nervous system and rarely integrate anatomy and physiology with clinical issues. In the past years, it has become apparent that pathologies of the peripheral parts of the auditory system affect the function of the nervous system, and vice versa. It is thus more and more important to view the peripheral and central parts of the auditory system in an integrative way. This book integrates descriptions of disorders of the ear and the nervous system and provides a comprehensive coverage of anatomy and physiology of the entire auditory system. The book introduces the role of neural plasticity in the symptoms of disorders such as tinnitus, hyperacusis and phonophobia. A separate chapter discusses cochlear and auditory brainstem implants. This book provides a thorough understanding of the anatomy and function of the auditory system Provides thorough information on the peripheral nervous system and auditory organs as well as the central nervous system As valuable for students of and reasearchers in basic sciences (biology, psychology, neuroscience, audiology etc) as for clinicians Offers an introduction into psychoacoustics and physical acoustics Presents information on important disorders of the auditory system (including Tinnitus, Includes chapter on cochlear and auditory brainstem implants Fully illustrated with carefully selected images |

Primary Ear and Hearing Care Training Resource $60 CD-ROM also available Primary Ear and Hearing Care Training Resource CD-ROM The WHO Training Resource on Primary Ear and Hearing Care is a new set of four training manuals aimed at equipping primary health care workers in developing countries with simple and cost-effective methods to reduce the burden of ear and hearing disorders. Although half of all deafness and hearing impairment is avoidable an estimated 278 million people worldwide are living with disabling hearing impairment (moderate or worse level of hearing loss in the better hearing ear). Many more have mild hearing loss and/or ear diseases. One quarter of hearing impairment begins during childhood and 80% of all deaf and hearing impaired people live in low and middle income countries. These problems can be life-long and sometimes life-threatening; they may have profound effects on: inter-personal communication education employment prospects social relationships and through stigmatization. They produce substantial economic burdens on countries. Some of the most effective and cost-effective interventions against ear and hearing problems can be implemented at the primary level by trained primary ear and hearing care (PEHC) workers or primary health care (PHC) workers or their equivalents. Used on a large scale these interventionswill have a major impact on the burden of ear disease and hearing loss. However most developing countries do not have PEHC workers and the topic is hardly addressed in the training of PHC workers. Workers in Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programmes rarely deal with this field. The Primary Ear and Hearing Care Training Resource addresses the urgent need for action to prevent and manage ear diseases and hearing impairment. The manuals provide practical information and guidance and can be used as part of a training course stand-alone training module or in a self-taught manner. They are designed to be useful to a wide range of primary health care personnel. The manuals can also be used to help communities understand common causes of deafness and hearing impairment and ways to prevent and/or treat the conditions. WHAT'S INSIDE THIS PUBLICATION? The WHO Primary Ear and Hearing Care Training Resource consists of user-friendly manuals at basic intermediate and advanced levels. Teaching aids such as posters are included. They are culturally appropriate for training of village health workers PEHC PHC and CBR workers and also more experienced personnel working at primary level. The resource focuses on community involvement and raising awareness and covers basic measures for prevention and management. A section on hearing aids is included for communities where there are no other trained personnel to help people use them effectively. It should help deaf and hard of hearing people to become accepted and productive at home at school in the workplace and in society in general. THE BASIC LEVEL OF THE TRAINING RESOURCE This level contains clear information diagrams |

Spatial Hearing $57.85 "There are two kinds of hearing. One kind is the hearing we are born with. . . . The other kind of hearing is learned, and develops as an elaborate form of pattern recognition in which the ear and brain cooperate. . . . The richness of this auditory space, much of it based on cues at or below the edge of conscious awareness, is explored in great detail by a distinguished expert in spatial hearing. It is a technically thorough, clearly presented review of almost everything known about that subject." -- Audio "A comprehensive, thorough, and easily readable survey of all the important work that has been done on the theories of hearing." -- R. J. Orlowski, Applied Acoustics The field of spatial hearing has exploded in the decade or so since Jens Blauert`s classic work on acoustics was first published in English. This revised edition adds a new chapter that describes developments in such areas as auditory virtual reality (an important field of application that is based mainly on the physics of spatial hearing), binaural technology (modeling speech enhancement by binaural hearing), and spatial sound-field mapping. The chapter also includes recent research on the precedence effect that provides clear experimental evidence that cognition plays a significant role in spatial hearing. The remaining four chapters in this comprehensive reference cover auditory research procedures and psychometric methods, spatial hearing with one sound source, spatial hearing with multiple sound sources and in enclosed spaces, and progress and trends from 1972 (the first German edition) to 1983 (the first English edition) -- work that includes research on the physics of the external ear, and the application of signal processing theory to modeling the spatial hearing process. There is an extensive bibliography of more than 900 items. |
