George Grant Blaisdell was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania June 5, 1895. He was the son of Philo and Sarah Blaisdell. He stopped attending school in fifth grade when he left and told his family that he would not return. His father sent him to military school, he attended school two years ago before we were dismissed for unknown reasons. After returning home, he immediately began working in the family business, a machine shop where he learned metal work and skills that later help develop lighter Zippo. He finally picked up the family business and sold to investing in oil. He did very well in the oil industry to that the Great Depression hit and the oil market has been interrupted dead.
One night he was on the steps of the Bradford County Club and asked Dick Dresser business why he was using a lighter as strange. Dresser replied "Well, it works." The lighter was produced in Austria and was windproof. This is where his idea came to the Zippo. Blaisdell had always loved the closing Flash text, which he has served as inspiration to come with the "more modern name" Zippo. Blaisdell wanted to make an affordable windproof lighter that was the key for successfully during the Great Depression.
He immediately started working on this and a year later, in 1933 the first Zippo lighter was born. He has been on the market for $ 1.95 and was guaranteed for life, just as it is today. Since then, Zippo has made more than 400 million Zippo lighters. Blaisdell died October 3, 1978 in Miami Beach, Florida, but the quality of product and service to society is still the same as it had since the beginning.
