It doesn't take hundreds of dollars to get those white, gleaming teeth often seen on fashion models or in photos of successful businessmen featured in popular magazines. Anybody can have the same look by following just a few simple tips. In fact, it only takes three tips to help whiten teeth and a bit of care to keep them that way afterward:
The first tip? Go for what you are likely to have at home, a common antibacterial formula used for cleaning wounds or sterilizing cuts - hydrogen peroxide. Although hydrogen peroxide might not seem to be the first thing that comes to mind as a tooth whitener, it does the job and has the added benefit of keeping germs and bacteria out of the mouth. To use it, simply swirl a small amount in your mouth, morning and night. Do not swallow it (a tiny bit won't hurt but try to spit most of it out). Then, immediately rinse your mouth with water or simply brush teeth as usual. Within a week or two, teeth should look noticeably whiter.
Whitening toothpaste also works, especially if teeth are stained due to smoking or even drinking coffee. Be sure to get a brand that won't damage the enamel of teeth. If in doubt, consult with a dentist. Although dentists may recommend far more expensive alternatives, try the tooth whitening paste first. If possible, get one that also has fluoride in it. It may take a couple of weeks to see a significant difference so take some before and after photos. Odds are, you'll see a huge change!
A very popular home remedy has been using strawberries (the seeds on the surface are said to help whiten teeth) but take it to a whole other level. Mix crushed strawberries with baking soda. Add only enough water to mimic the texture of toothpaste, easily used on a toothbrush. Brush daily, at least twice a day and see if this paste doesn't make a difference. Rinse with water to remove all residue after brushing.
