A novelist, essayist, poet and storyteller, Jamaica Kincaid is very popular in the world. She is born in the year 1949 in the small Antigua her mother has named Elaine Potter Richardson. She did not know his father, but lived with his step-father at the time of Antigua was one of British colonies, so she was enrolled in this system.
She lived on the island until it was sixteen when she left for the United States and began working as an au pair for a couple of Americans.
When she began her Writing it has changed name as she feared that the island would not understand his work. It was a such that most of the writing is based the Caribbean and it will not return to the islands of nineteen years.
His career started from his association with people on the literary scene in New York in the 70s. She had many friends at this time and even started as editor for a magazine.
A well established publisher of the New Yorker asked him to write a piece for his magazine and that's where his characteristic style has been exposed which resulted in its becoming ordinary writer for the magazine.
Jamaica Kincaid has received much criticism both from readers and critics without fear, but she continued her lyrical style and was a force to be reckoned with in the writing arena. The first book she published was called "bottom of the river" and is a compilation of short stories.
From that first book we could see the reflections of those who were follow, she tapped into issues such as mother and daughter relationships, politics, people find the identity, sexuality, dissatisfaction with its country and many other controversial subjects.
Kincaid can be described as a writer who has lived in an imaginary world in both his work interesting journey takes you and leaves you with questions. Some people consider his work to a small catalog, but it certainly captured much attention for his modest work.
Some of the other written by her include Annie John, Autobiography of my mother, a small place, My Brother, Lucy and others. Most of his work could be considered an autobiography as are references to his life, family and the island she was born.
She received numerous awards, the book "at the bottom of the River" earned him an American Academy of Arts and Letters prices. She received the Prix Femina Etranger for the novel "My brother and also got nominated for an award Pen Faulkner. His life is as interesting as his work and it is sometimes difficult to find details of this renowned writer.
But she carved out his own distinctive space in the arena Literary America with his fictions that describe strongly lives of everyday situations.
What we know is that she lives with her husband, Allen Shawn, a college professor and composer. Their two children, Harold and Annie lived with them in Burlington, Vermont. It is a Judaism convert who believes strongly in his faith.
