ST connector is synonymous with "Straight Tip". It was developed by AT & T and is a registered trademark of AT & T. The official name as defined in ISO / IEC is BFOC/2.5.
ST connector was the first defactor most popular and therefore the industry standard connector of optical fiber communication.
It has evolved from the copper cable connector designs using a half-twist locking mechanism and a bayonet plug and socket. ST connector is standard in Chapter 2 EIA/TIA-604-02 FOCIS.
ST is similar to FC connector, but has a quick connect bayonet mechanism instead of screwing on the mechanism in the FC connectors.
It is available in both singlemode and multimode types and are still widely used in the wiring of principle.
ST connector has a key on an inner sleeve with the outer ring of the bayonet. To establish a connection, you align the key on the inner sleeve of the ST plug with a corresponding slot on the container ST. Then you push the connector (it is spring) and lock in place by turning the outer ring of the bayonet. This mechanism provides a close connection with precise alignment between the two pieces of fiber cable optics to be joined.
It is simple and quick to install, and for this reason, it is very popular. The problem is that he is also difficult to pair in the dual-fiber plants. Then ST connector is available only in simplex and duplex not in the version.
Other connectors Similar simplex include SMA connector, FC connector and BNC connector. They all share the difficulty of bonding in the dual-fiber plants. There is no practical way to connect two ST fiber connections in a single unit.
ST connector is now considered an existing fiber optic connector, as it has been around for some time and can still be found in the installation of many.
