The growing antagonism between Google Tube / You and the creators who "involuntarily supply" their video content has shown that the PC has become the appointment to watch videos. So would not it be nice if you could stash all your videos and huge music files somewhere other than the disk drive of your computer clean? And if such a place could be easily connected to your living room TV and stereo, so you can see videos and listen to music without having to integrate a PC into your living room stack speed? And would not it be nice if you could use a wireless connection move these files from your PC too, since you can not or will not wire your stay with Ethernet?
These questions are not empty, but the idea behind the $ 275 MediaGate MG-350HD. It is the size of a hardback book with lots of cables and connectors to connect to your TV and hi-fi. It sorta works.

The box has your choice of component, composite, S-video or DVI connectors, coaxial, optical or twin RCA audio connectors. Among this selection should be a combination that can connect to what you have in your living room. Unlike having a Media Center PC, it is quiet and does not generate much heat.
You can connect to your PC via a USB connector is regular, or use the wired Ethernet port or wireless network. It does not come with a hard disk - You'll need to buy an older 3.5-inch IDE inches. The camera comes with a small remote control that is used mainly for installation tasks, and to scroll through the various files to play them. And you scroll - the interface is similar to Windows Media Center, showing you the folders and file names on the screen in large fonts that mean that few inputs per screen. If you have hundreds of files, it will take some effort to find them. Another feature interesting is that you can store video and audio files on USB drives ordinary key, and then plugging them into the device and play them.
Both quality audio and video seemed acceptable. You have the choice of 4:3 or 16:9 video. Overall, the camera is decent work. If you're not a fan of Windows Media Center, it might be a good alternative. Apple's iTV is a comparable price when you take into account that it includes the hard drive, but not the cables. But iTV will be 4:03 and you must use iTunes to manage how content is moved to box.
