The Nokia 6500 Slide is a slide design 3G mobile phone. It boasts better features than the Nokia 6500 Classic although it's not so thin or lightweight. This phone is sleek and trendy and has a 2.2 inch high colour screen which can display up to 16 million colours. This mobile also features TV output, a 3.2 megapixel camera and a well functioning media player.
The silver and black brushed metal panels on the front and back are durable and look stylish. The 6500 Slide weighs 123 grams and it is a bit chunky and awkward in shape to carry in your pocket if you've been using a lighter, smaller model. Also, the screen is slightly on the dark side and can be tricky to view in direct light.
The phone only comes with 20MB of built-in memory but it does come with a 256MB microSD card which you can slot under the battery cover. This means you can use memory cards up to 4GB, so you can take full advantage of the 6500's media player. The headphones you get with the phone are quite basic and not sound-isolating, but they aren't too bad.
There are twin cameras on the Nokia 6500 Slide to enable video calls. The one on the back has a Carl Zeiss lens and auto-focus. This camera is perhaps not as good as those in some of the N-series range but the pictures are pretty sharp nonetheless. Unfortunately there is no camera lens with the camera and it is quite easy to get it dirty or scratched. You do, however, get an 8x digital zoom for photos (4x for video) with the 6500 Slide so it's not all bad. You can also connect your 6500 Slide directly to the Flickr® website and share your photos with your friends. Video is captured at 15 frames a second, which produces good results.
The Nokia 6500 has a TV output so you can connect the phone to your TV to view videos or photos or listen to music. This feature works very well with music and photos but videos created on your phone do tend to look even jerkier on a big screen.
This phone has 6 hours of talk-time and 320 hours battery standby. If you're listening to music, playing games or talking on the phone a lot, be prepared to have to charge it every day. The Nokia 6500 Slide also has USB and Bluetooth connectivity, Java games and applications, quad-band, 64-voice polyphonic ringtones and an x-HTML web browser. The games which come with the phone are pretty snazzy, especially the Poker and Golf, and you can download more. There is, however, no document viewer and you can't view full web pages on this phone. The Nokia 6500 is fairly features packed but better for personal than business users because of what it does lack.
The chunkiness and weight of the Nokia 6500 Slide might put some people off but the TV output is a good idea and it has all the other features you would expect to find on an up to date 3G mobile phone.
